Your Firefly Magic® Firefly Lights have been designed and manufactured to work reliably in most all climates year around. However, common sense will insure your 'Fireflies' last for many years of enjoyment.
TEMPERATURE: Firefly Magic® Firefly Lights will operate effectively in temperatures from 5°F to 120°F (-15C to 50C).
Particularly in harsh winter climates it's recommended that the 'Fireflies' be brought indoors. This is because very low temperatures cause plastic and plastic covered wires to become brittle with the possibility of cracking or breaking.
The Solar Panel Assembly should not be subject to extremely wet conditions followed by freezing temperatures as ice may form, creating stress cracks and breaking the unit.

As with any product, common sense should be used when determining if your 'Fireflies' should be left out year around.
WET WEATHER: The solar collector is designed to be used in the rain and is manufactured with small drain or ‘weep’ holes that allow any collected moisture to escape out the bottom of the unit.
However, the unit was not designed to be “water proof”, as it houses the rechargeable AA batteries that must eventually be changed and jacks that the ‘Firefly Clusters’ plug into.
The battery holder door does have a rubber o-ring seal to minimize moisture and there are small drain, or weep, holes on the bottom of the solar collector to allow any accumulated moisture to automatically escape.
Because the solar collector is mounted on a 6" long plastic stake it may end up only 2" or 3” above the ground. If it rains hard enough, and water pools around the unit, moisture may enter up through the drain holes, but should come right out when it stops raining.
Firefly Magic Firefly Lights are widely and successfully used in the very rainy southeastern states that include Florida, South Carolina, Louisiana, and the rainy northwestern states of Washington and Oregon.
Note that the Solar Panel Assembly should not be submerged or placed in a stream of water, either from a hose or water runoff, as this will allow a significant amount of water to enter the unit.
