Outdoor Use in Shade

Outdoor Use in Shade
Firefly Magic® Firefly Lights are designed to need for approximately 2-3 hours of direct sunlight to directly land on the solar panel each day (average).

Through the year, as the sun's location in the sky changes (seasonal changes), sometimes a sunny location in the yard becomes a shady location. If this happens, it is still possible the solar panel will collect enough solar energy to keep the rechargeable batteries charged.

Because of our unique patented design, the 'Fireflies' can actually continue operating for several days with a very minimal amount of sunlight striking the laminated high efficiency solar panel.

However, if the fireflies begin to get dim, or stop working, it means the batteries are not receiving a sufficient charge from the solar panel, due to insufficient sunlight striking the panel.

There are two solutions for this problem:

1) Relocate to Solar Panel Assembly to a location where it will receive the 2 -3 hours of direct sunlight directly on the solar panel each day.

2) If it is not possible to place the Solar Panel where it will receive direct sunlight, then convert the unit to a standard battery operated device. You can easily do this by removing the two rechargeable AA batteries and replace them with two standard AA heavy duty alkaline batteries.

The AA Alkaline batteries will supply enough energy to operate the Model FMS-16S1CG unit continuously for approximately 4 weeks, and the FMS-7 unit for approximately 6 weeks. When the 'Fireflies' begin to get dim, immediately install new batteries to eliminate damage to the unit.

CAUTION - WHEN USING STANDARD AA ALKALINE BATTERIES, BE SURE TO COVER THE SOLAR PANEL SO SUNLIGHT WILL NOT TRY TO CHARGE THE ALKALINE BATTERIES.

CAUTION - NEVER LEAVE DEAD ALKALINE BATTERIES IN THE UNIT AS THEY WILL DEGRADE AND POSSIBLY LEAK ACID, CAUSING PERMANENT DAMAGE NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY.
